I was wondering what can and can't I use in a Rem 870 rifled deer barrel?

I assume buckshot is a no go. Do I need rifled slugs, sabots etc?

Thanks

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but typically one wouldn't use rifled slugs in a rifled barrel.

870

We've tried rifled slugs in a rifled barrel just for the hell of it. It works but the groups were not great, stick with sabots. We also have used 7 1/2 shot and that grouse died on the spot;)

Going to get hold of some REM slugs as suggested. I will post my findings after my range session.:)

From some fellows I have asked, I here only good reviews both with accuracy as well as stopping power.

The other big problem in using rifled slugs out of a rifled barrel is that you get leading from the soft slug being forced through the rifling that it was not designed to encounter. This can lead pressure build up and is a ##### to clean up as I experienced first hand in a Mossy 835 barrel.

Not to hijack, but more information please. I now plan to try these out this fall for my rifled-barrel 870, at least if I can get them in Saskatoon.

Definitely looks like a very effective ammunition, if you believe the propaganda. With the sabot slug is there going to be an appreciable difference between 2 3/4" and 3 " Magnum slugs? Heck, in general is there an appreciable difference in performance between 2 3/4" and 3" in a 3" chambered firearm?

Wait, it's both!
