maybe someone can help me with this one.
I recently aquired an 870 with a 7-8 thousandths differance between the ID of the reciver and the OD of the barrel shank. It is very noticably sloppy.
being the first 870 I have ever examined, is this normal ?
thanks

How tight is the end cap?
Do you have one with the detent ball in the barrel lug?
Never Measured mine but they are all loose till the end cap is snugged up.

The difference in the barrel OD and receiver ID sounds fine to me. But you should have a look at the tip of the ejecter - it fits into a little slot cut into the barrel extension - this prevents the barrel from rotating side to side. Sometimes the tip of the ejector gets battered or even breaks off. Look at the ejector housing where it fits into the barrel extension and if you don't see a little number 12 stamped in it - it is has broken off and needs to be replaced. If the 12 is still there and tip is battered or worn thin it would be a good idea to have the ejector replaced.
