870 barrels- dlask vs dominion arms

We have discussed doing a Mossberg barrel. If there's enough interest we may kick some out in the future.

The immediate concern with doing a Mossberg barrel shorter than 16" is that it requires a new mag tube. The construction of which is not in itself the issue, but asking all customers to remove & replace their tubes properly and without damage is.

Seeing some of the issues sometimes experienced with some of our "drop in" accessories I am concerned that this kind of home install might prove troublesome.

.. I shoot Mossbergs myself and understand the under served nature of the platform.

It's not an issue if you already have or choose to buy the 18.5" 590A1.
The smithing involved with the Ithaca's would be more of a pain in the butt......

One of these is half the price- is there a big difference between the two?

So...
To get the thread back on track...

I've run thousands (yes...) through both types, on combat shotgun courses.
As long as you don't stress the Dominion's by threading, they'll perform fine. Push the limit on threading for a choke, and your partner will pay the price, in the "totem pole of death" (still sorry for that one, Jimy...), when the front end goes down range, taking your choke tube with it....

Of the 6x 12.5 dominions I've tried to have threaded, 3 worked out, one blew out (literally..), the rest where too out of spec, diameter wise, to thread with any level of confidence. That being said, they all fit up well, both on Rem receiver's, as well as various batches of Dominion Arms receiver's, and have worked well, through boat loads of rounds (bird, OO, slug)

The best performer for aftermarkets, was the Dlask 12.5- nice and thick, threaded up nice, and the site works OK as well.

All the shorty 8.5 Dominion barrels will thread up nice, for the "poke me in the eye, when you run out" choke, and allow fitting a +1 tube extension, after the breacher choke is installed.

Doc, im with you on that , the nork bbls are great fo the price range.
i love my factory rem870 14 inch bbl, as its has the Mod fixed choke, mil spec park finish, thick but not to heavy profile.
Raised bead front site.
The factory rem 870 is worth the $300+ bucks as it has all of these items listed above.

No way i would pay $300+ for a barrel that does not have all of those.
It is hard to use a plain bead site on a short barrle even at 7yrds.
So the idea of not having a good raised front site for a short bbl shotgun is just plain stupid.

The nork im happy with, even if the finish is crap, the bead is to low and does not have a mag cap dedent.
At $150 retail and a ok dealer price point, i have refinished a few 100 of these and make them into great shooters.

Its a bunch of work, to bead blast, gun kote finish, install new site and dedent and polish the chamber and bore, but still alot cheaper then the $300-$350 from dlask or $300-$400 for a factory Rem, if you can find it.

Not eveyone is into doing gun work, so if NEA can provide a rem factory profile 14" bbl with raised bead front site with polished chamber , mag dedent and good park finish for $300 retail then im all for it and so are my customers!!

That all being said , i wish could find someone to park shotgun barrels for $1ea and drill tap and install from sites for $1.50!
even at 500 at a time id take up that offer asap!!

Good post Simon,
Hopefully NEA will figure out a nice pedestal mounted bead that works well with their new barrels......shouldn't be too hard.

Yeah no doubt! At the risk of speaking for NEA, I believe the $1.50 value for the sight was just the cost of the bead not installed. I recall him allotting $12 for install as well. Still super low cost either which way IMHO.

The park price? Who knows?? $1 sounds stupid cheap yes, but I haven't seen the size of his guy's tank. Economy of scale can do wonderful things to per unit price after all...
