Sure but it does not fit the forend tube assembly rail :'(

I answered the question asked. Grind the notch if you want to use it I would say
I have no clue what year your 870 is and all of mine have the original design so a non issue for me
Like these extras I have

Cheers

Thanks for the input i could not find any info on google.

I appreciate it !

The change was made in 1993 where the left action bar was made with an extra tooth and the slide (the part in question) has an extra notch. It was changed to keep the left action bar from "uncoupling" and also keeps the action bar lock from slipping off of the left action bar thus keeping it locked forward.

Thanks for the clarification. I only have one 2002 and it is NIB since it is a factory 3 1/2 wingmaster all the rest are pre 87 including what I have worked on over the years
Take care

Np.Any idea what year the gun is so I can check out the changes. Most of mine are pre 87

No idea , i bought some parts and it was in the lot.

Great info, ty.

Because you got a good one piece vintage one not a cheaper two piece brazed together one like the pic

They’re not just brazed. The top slide piece is also pinned into the bottom piece. Probably pressure fit.

OP, best to replace your forend tube for one that has the additional tooth and call it a day. I’ll tell you why.

If your gun has the newer carrier style with the U shape cutout, your bolt will also have a cutout on the bottom front of it. If your replace your slide for the older version as our good colleague 3macs1 shows in his photo, you’ll render the new style carrier’s purpose useless. The OLD style slide doesn’t have the angled slits at the rear of the slide designed to work in conjunction with the newer style bolt and carrier.

I use the new style slide, new style carrier and old style bolt and trigger group.

Phew :D

For now i have no compatibility issues.

If you’re using the old style bolt you’ll need to upgrade to the new style bolt. It’s also different, intended to work in conjunction with the new style carrier.
You wouldn’t notice a difference until a shell is accidentally released into the ejection port while having a chambered shell and have to clear it. That’s why that U notch is cut into the carrier. Otherwise the gun will function just fine.

Did you ever read this. I own over 2 dozen wingmasters since 1965 and put 100,000's of rounds through them by starting shooting skeet with a 4 gun set and never have I experienced the issue you describe
Take care

I asked an experienced and well known instructor for a large federal agency about the Flexitab conversion, and this is what he said:

“It was not a common occurrence with the gun as designed, BUT if the shell stops became loose over time (staking wore out with use), or a shell was not fully seated into the magazine tube (operator error), a shell could exit the mag tub at the wrong timing and be caught between bottom of the bolt and the shell lifter. At that point it would jam the mechanism as there was not enough clearance if the bolt was in battery or close to it.

Funny that it didn’t come up as a problem until the LE guns stared getting older and worn out, and the “new generation” of police recruits that had no gun experience started coming into the profession on large numbers. For many years, Remington only offered the modification to LE agencies, saying it wasn’t a problem with the sporting guns.”

I’ve only experienced it inducing this malfunction intentionally to find you can now cycle the stuck shell manually with ease instead of wracking the butt of the gun on a hard surface.
I concur that excessive use over time and user error combined maybe, improperly inserted shells, you could end up with a jam. No doubt shell latches need attention at some point, weaken, or unstake as you say.
I do believe it’s a smart improvement on Rems part. I think it was 1984 when they made that change.

IMo I think the crap hulls people use today plays a role also
I have never subjected any of my wingmasters to anything but brass base quality hulls like AA, sts, gold metal, or Activ
