So I just bought a new remington 870 and plan to take it to the range soon. I've read I need to clean it first to get all the "packing and shipping grease" off it.
Am I simply dissassembling it and wiping down the exterior of the barrel or am I don't a complete strip down and cleaning the trigger assembly and the bolt carrier and such? I've found PLENTY of reading and videos online for how to strip and clean the 870, but no info on the FIRST clean.
Just wondering if there's anything special I need to do, or just like any other regular clean.

Thanks
Noob (Matt)

Standard field strip followed by a rub down and lubrication should be all you need. Many people just do the barrel and bolt face and off to the races they go.

Thank you sir! That's all I did. Didn't know if there was "shipping grease" INSIDE the trigger assembly and I needed to disassemble and clean that too, or not.

Thanks again!
