So I'm doing my first ever build, got the new to me barrel and bought the 7 shot extension. But now I have to remove the dimples in order for the extension to function properly. I going to try the hammer and socket method, maybe if the hardware store has some smaller c-clamps I might try and press em out.

I was just hoping for some advice from people who have done it before. Anything I should know before I start to "hammer away" on my shottie? besides being careful that is.....

Drill them out. The barrel band will cover the holes. A round file on the inside of the tube will clean up any burrs.

Or use a socket. I found a mastercraft socket I had that just perfectly fit in the tube, and just pushed it down the tube, and it nicely pushed the dimples right out. No need to reblue :)

This works but occasionally results in guys bending the tube and/or busting the brazing to the receiver. Depends on how people mount before they try to press the socket.

Brownells also sells a specific ramped socket to remove 870 dimples.

Drilling is almost idiot proof.

Huh, never had an issue but thanks for the heads up if I decide to do it again in the future I'll keep an eye on the process instead of gung-ho like last time :)

I bought a cheap demel from crappy tire for like 12.oo bucks on sale and then used one of the bits to smooth out the dimples from the inside.

Im looking for the least destructive way possible. Bending the tube would be a little to destructive for me... Think I will just drill em out. Or see if if I can find that ramped socket.

I found the part at Brownells I was referring to as #080-870-206

A lot of money in my opinion for the 'professional' dimple remover. I think it used to be cheaper.

I still believe drilling being a much easier solution.

Quick update I guess.

So I drilled it out filed it down and put the extension on 'er. The extension is just a cheap one for now, I had to rough it up a little and spray paint it flat black to make it look alright. But over all I'm happy, my first time altering one of my firearms.

I did look up the part and for the money (and some horror pictures from people using the socket method) drilling was the best method to use I think.
