Not sure how best to explain but here goes.

With the 870 barrel off to remove the actions bars and forend I need to depress both shell catches to remove the forend and action bars. At least that’s the case with two of my 870s.

My third however... Barrel off, push/pull forend forward and the entire assemly pulls out without touching the shell catches...

Is this normal? I’ve checked the action bars and they seem straight and true.

Is this an issue?

How do I fix it?

So it’s the interaction between the action bars and shell latches/stops that allows it to slide off improperly. To fix it new springs/catches or whatever they’re called will need to be installed.

Think warranty might cover it? I’m the second owner.

Not an issue with the barrel on...

I’ll have to check my 870’s but I think my Grizzly’s forend assembly just comes off without depressing the latches, I know my Fabarm is like that. If the latches are working fine with regards to retaining and releasing shells I don’t think I’d really worry about it, as you said once the barrel and mag tube nut is on it’s not going anywhere.
