Well I know reviews are done to death, particularily with 870's. Having just shopped for a new shotgun however I found that lots of reviews helped. Please note that this is 'part 1' as I haven't had a chance to take it out yet. I wanted to record my first impression while it's fresh. I've often heard that the 'express' was poorly finished and not smoothe at all. Well I must say I'M IMPRESSED. the finish of the steel is uniform and very nice, and the action, while it doesn't glide like a wingmaster might, does not bind at all. With proper technique (might be easy to short-stroke for someone not paying attention) there should be no problem at all cycling this SG. The finish on the wood isn't deep or beautifull, but for a gun I intend to use in the field, as with the finish of the barrel and receiver, the finish is uniform and adequate. To conclude my first impressions, I think it was well worth the 360.00 dollars I paid for it new. More to follow after I take it out this weekend.

Cheers,
DC

Have fun with it. Have one myself but in the break up camo. So many extra parts for it, like a cantilever barrel for deer (although you are from Ottawa and probably shoot rifles for deer). Rifle hunt for deer but we shotgun hunt as well for an extra week out. But I agree, love the qualitly for the price and have had no problems with mine. Have you shot the 3 1/2 shells out of 'er yet?

I have one and I like it. The only thing I did not like was the fact that the slide wears down the finish on the tube, but I guess there is no way around that  I have the synthetic stock.

Yes it has a (hard) plastic trigger guard.

All I need now is a shorter barrel and some 3.5in shells for blasting purposes:D

I have had one with the tupperware stock for several years now.It certainly is not the prettiest shotgun, but it is dependable and rugged. My only real critisism would be that the reciever will rust at an alarming rate if it not attended to after a damp session of clays.
I love the monster.

Had the same problem. The pump part was wearing out the finish on the barrel. All I did was take a dremel tool and shave down the inside part, black synthetic anyways on a camo barrel so who cares. Now it doesnt bind anymore when you dont pump it straight back and forth in the heat of the moment.
