I'm really interested in a "tactical" shotgun but which one, 870 Express synthetic 7 shot or the Mossberg 590A1 with a 18.5" barrel, how is the fit/finish on the Express compared to the Mossberg?

I'm really liking my 20" 590A1. Its a tank, but really well made. My only gripe is the the forend is a touch wobbely around the mag tube. Not a big deal but I like the solid feel of my wingmaster forend.

I have an express. Bought a 20" barrel with rifle sights for about 120 bucks. Bought a tube extension for about 80 bucks. Very versatile, when it's hunting time, the tube extension gets dropped, barrel gets swapped. For about 3 minutes of work and about 200 bucks cheaper.....I'll stick with my remington. That said, I also has a mossberg 500 that I love and would be my go-to gun in the middle of the night.

If I have to replace my 870 I'll get a Mossberg because I like the safety better. In every other respect my 870 is fine but it hasn't convinced me that a Mossberg isn't as good.

Lack of finger pincher (shell gate) and thumb safety that sits right on your thumb when you grip it (push forward to shoot) and slide release housed just behind trigger (no reaching, or straining to release) make my moss berg 500A1 my favorite shotgun by ergonomic win.

For ease of use it is one of the best shotguns I have ever owned. and with 8 shots unplugged it is a formidable personal defense weapon.

My only complaint is that I didnt get the stainless steel version....

If you have short arms like me the 590 might not be a good choice. I bought one and sold it just for the reason, suck too because they are a wicked shotgun. Now 870 all the way.

my prediction for the next thread:

'Maverick 88 vs 870 Police?'

the 870 Express finish has gotten unacceptable in a firearm, IMO. what would it cost them to clean this receiver up before rolling it out the door? $1? $2 in manufacturing costs?

Buster95, I recently bought the same SG but with the speedfeed stock.
It's built like a tank and the GR sights work great! Love the tack look & feel.
I found it a bit stiff racking the slide when I brought it home but its smooth as butter now.
All I've added is a Galati 2pt sling and ammo. My fav overall SG (vs my others - 8.5"Dlask and 14"Fabarm)

You got yourself a fine shotgun :shotgun:

now it just needs a green laser and a tac light :p

F.Y.I. Green lasers on shotguns = Awsome

Personally I find the 870's better, I've had problems with mossbergs, I've parts break on them. So far my 870 has stood up at home and I see them stand up every day in the desert, if you plan and hard usage I'd reccomend the 870 series. the controls on the mossberg are easier though.

590A1 all the way. 20", heavy barrel with the all metal internals (so the 870 fans can stop saying stuff like "thems mawssburgs breaks easy") and 8+1 capacity. Can't ever go wrong. Better ergonomics, better action (dual extractors, every part about it's action is positive, it's like the good Winchester model 70 versus the Remington 700) has a lot of clearance that lets it work regardless of how dirty or hot it gets.
