870 express trouble

My rem 870 express 12ga has devaloped an annoying trait. After I shoot the first shell I cannot pump the next shell in unless I pull the slide release button. makes follow up shots at geese a little tough. I have cleaned the gun and oiled it. Any ideas what might be going on??
 
That is annoying. I've not heard of it as a common problem. Maybe pull the trigger group out and see if there's something funky going on. If you don't see anything, post pics. IIRC, it's a pretty simple relationship between the trigger and the slide release.
 
As with any high-production shotgun, there's always a small (but noticeable) percentage with "issues", and those typically get magnified on internet forums.
I am willing to bet that the vast majority of Express owners are content and don't feel the need to boast about them on forums, especially for the small amount of money they paid. For the record, I have a Marine Magnum (built on the Express platform?), and it hasn't given me any trouble. Flawless in function.

I agree 100 percent with your analogy. I have one and it works as smooth as glass and has been that way right out of the box now for 8 yrs. I have bagged many turkeys and a few yotes with her.
 
That's all I ever use, and haven't had a problem with my 12 & 20 Gage.
A friend of mine has been hunting with his Express for the past 20+ years and has never had a problem with it.
His son decided to purchase one of the Super Magnum 870's and it seized up on the second day he had it.
Brought it back to the place where he purchased the gun and got the cold shoulder they wouldn't do anything for him. They told him he would have to send it away for repair. After he protested they finally gave him his money back. Went to the Gun Dealer and bought the same thing from them, Ross said if it didn't work he could return it for repairs or he would give him a new one.
 
I have owned this 870 for about 10 years and have never has a minutes trouble until now. I know they are great guns and there are tons of them out there, I own one in 20ga as well.
After another inspection the problem seems to be the little release catch viewable thru the bottom of the action does not always release when it is fired. I have cleaned and lubed it again and observed it while dry firing and it seems to function fine.I will try it with ammo next week and see what it does.
