Just got a Rem extension tube, but I noticed that the follower stops at the end of the main mag tube. There are two crimps that hold the plastic spring cap. This is on the Magnum model of 1990's.

Do you suggest I'll knock them or file them down? If I do that the spring cap will not be retained in place if I want to go back to 5 rounds and put the original screw cap on.

Or can I buy a follower that can squeeze between the front crimps but big enough without falling in the receiver? Is there such thing out there?

Is there some one with who has some experience with this out there?

Thanks.

I drill the dimples out when I install an extension.

The follower has slots on it's side that aren't obviously lined up. Just retate the follower for removal.

the newer expresses come with these stupid dimples. luckily the one I just got doesn't have it :D

people drill them out. but I don't know your answer to the going back to 5 rounds. if the stock end cap will hold the barrel on after drilling them out.

Why worry about going back?

If you need reduced capacity for hunting, just dowel the mag tube.

Another way to remove the dimples is to swage them out with progressively larger sockets. Since stretched metal has to flow somewhere, you will probably have to drill the center of the dimples anyway, but you can get away with a smaller hole.

I've tried both. Frankly, drilling is simpler and if you center punch first, it can be just as neet a job.

If you're not going to put an extension on, don't do it.

If you do it, and want to go back, you need an old style spring retainer and a set of plumbers pliers to tighten the mag cap.
