870 forearm removal

It seems to me that you have to use finger pressure to press in the left shell latch to allow the action bars to slide free from the receiver. This is also true for reassembly.

Yes, i thought of that after i posted, just figured at that point,
he would have seen what was preventing the assembly from sliding forward.
Simple push with index finger and out she goes.

A piece of flat steel 1/8 thick by 1 1/4 wide and about 3 inches long will be fine for taking the actual stock off the slide.

Never over estimate the gunsmithing skills of someone posting on the internet. I spent about 20 minutes trying to get the action bars back in before I realized that I need to press the tabs on both sides.

Thanks to all. I was able to figure it out and it was fairly easy to remove the locking nut once it was off the gun with a set of points.

1. Take pliers.
2. Insert them into the fore-end tube.
3. Open up pliers so they are tight against the tube's walls.
4. While holding the forestock firmly, unscrew the fore-end tube until it slides out.
5. Replace with new fore-end stock.

The last one I replaced didn't work that easily.. let me tell you... Holy cow, I borrowed a forearm wrench from Easy here on CGN, and even with that it was hard to remove!!

to take the forearm off and replace it does take a special tool to spin off the cylinder that keeps the forearm in place. I went through the same process last year when I put a rubber forerarm on my 870. I went to the reminton page and followed the parts diagrams to see how it all went together.
