Hi folks.

As the proud owner of a new 870 that will be turning into a tactical shotty, I am considering replacement foregrips. I'm not a big fan of the factory grip.

Ideally, I'd like to get a forearm much like this one:

The problem is that I got that pic from a US site that won't ship to Canada.

It's a Choate forearm, that allows one chunk of picatinny rail to be attached.

Let's hear what you tactical scattergun gurus have to say about other options that will work on my new as-yet-un-pimped, as-yet-un-named 870.

I'm sure you can find such a fore-end in the exchange forum at times. There are lots of them in-Country already.

I don't like anything hanging from a fore-end. You can serioussly hurt yoursef cycling shells under duress. Especially with attachments with protruding sharp angles like you show in your photo.

Good luck.

I've been giving that a bit of thought. Maybe a Hogue fore-end, and look at mounting the forward of the join in the mag tube (factory to extension)?

I'm not a big fan of having anything hang from my gauge, but here's what I did to one of my guns for s**tz 'n giggles.

I used a Lite Mount Tech. shotgun mount to hold a Sure-Fire in place.

Yup...that's the sort of positioning that I'm thinking of now.

I've been looking at what some of the other folks had in their pics of tactical shotguns, and saw this pic...

I believe that the shotty in question is yours, Geologist.

Is that a DIY mod to a Choate fore grip?

I personally can't stand that Choate grip. I've never bothered mounting mine. Get yourself a Speedfeed or regular police model. If you really want to put a light on it than just bolt a piece of rail to it.
