870 Marine Magnum front sight is not quite what I want, so I tried to pull it out...managed to break it off:redface:
So, I drilled the center out and tried an extractor...managed to scrape a bit of the mount, but nothing moved on the broken sight. So, I guess I need to drill the hole and tap it...I bought a TruGlow 6-48 thread size replacement front sight for Remington shotguns...I thought the front sight was screwed in, not pressed. I don't have a tap-is there anything else I can try or should I just take it to a smith?

The bead that sits on top of the small ramp extends right through the small ramp and the tip of it goes into a small hole in the barrel. It is then silver soldered on. You can pull, push it or twist it and all you are going to do is ruin it!

After the bead is broken off, it could be drilled and tapped. At the very least you need the correct number drill in a drill press and the right tap.

you can drill and tap for your new sight. i found that out the hard way.

Depending on your smith figure about $15 to do the hole and then what ever to set the sight.
