870 Grizzly Pics, Lets see Them :)

Well I am pretty much done with my Grizzly...for now.;) All that is left is to get out to the range and shoot it.:shotgun:

I am still waiting on the pistol grip from CanAm, but I will probably leave it in this configuration.

  • Hi-Viz plain barrel sight
  • Tac-Star 4 shot side saddle
  • 5 round but stock shell holder
  • "Bubba's" homemade LED flashlight and holder

From the Canada Firearms website:

"Definition of a Restricted Firearm
According to the Criminal Code, a restricted firearm is:

A handgun that is not a prohibited firearm;
A semi-automatic, centre-fire firearm with a barrel length less than 470 mm that is not a prohibited firearm;
A firearm that can fire after being reduced, by folding, telescoping or otherwise, to an overall length of less than 660 mm; and
Any firearm prescribed under the Criminal Code regulations to be restricted (including some long guns).

The Criminal Code defines the following firearms as prohibited:

automatics, including those that have been converted so that they can only fire one projectile when the trigger is squeezed;

handguns with a barrel length of 105 mm (4.1 inches) or less, and handguns that discharge .25 or .32 calibre ammunition, except for a few specific models used in International Shooting Union competitions;.

rifles and shotguns that have been altered so that their barrel length is less than 457 mm (about 18 inches) or their overall length is less than 660 mm (about 26 inches); or

any firearm prescribed as prohibited – These can be found in the fact sheet listing restricted and prohibited firearms. "

From what I understand, shorty shotguns like this aren't considered restricted or prohibted because:
1) They aren't semi auto
2) A pistol grip isn't a reduction of an original stock. It doesn't fold or telescope
3) The barrel hasn't been altered. That is the original factory issue.

I think Dlask was in the middle of a debate with Canada firearms over this very thing.

The problem here is you are quoting the CFC's paraphrased version of the regulation, not the actual regulation. The reg says if the firearm is made to fire with a length of less than 660mm, it is restricted. A pistol grip does this.

You're quote also agrees with me:
A firearm that can fire after being reduced, by folding, telescoping or otherwise, to an overall length of less than 660 mm"

Adding a pistol grip would be considered otherwise. In legal documents, the words OR as well as AND are very, very big words to pay attention to.

Telescoping, folding or any other means. Dlask 8.5'ers. Previous RCMP interpretation advised the "pistol grip" did qualify as "any other means" and was allowable. Happy times, and there was much rejoicing. Now it is "in dispute", and kind of up in the air. Right now, it is technically allowable, BUT, I believe if you were to come under any scrutiny whilst with a short barreled, pistol gripped shotgun, you'll be in a world of headache. It's not "out there" or clear at this point. Your firearm will most likely be confiscated, pending clarification. I for one am not too keen on potential hassle, and have kept my Grizzy full stock. I am eagerly awaiting news on this issue, but until then, I'll keep it over 26".

Seems pretty clear to me......altered so their overall lenght is less then 26".
Not to mention how retarded it is to post pictures of it on the net......

Less talk, more rock (gun pictures).

Indeed....

5 slug hits. The windage is OK, but it seems to shoot a tad high.
POA was center of target, POI was 12 O'clock. I'll have to try a 6 O'clock hold.

FrankenRem: 870MM receiver & stock set, Grizzly barrel, trigger group, mag spring and follower, bolt, REM mag cap.

Took it out to the range and did some quick patterning at 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25M. It seems to be effective to 20M, but things are getting thin at that point. 25M as you can see, you're pushing it. I tested my 6 O'clock hold, and I was correct. Again, not a single FTF or FTE, she's running smooth.

4 shot group at 20M. Bead was at the bottom point of the triangle. I think I have it down.

I have a Hogue 12" LOP overmolded stock set, Bad Boy slingplate en route, and will be adding some tritium & refinishing.
