I had a 18" 870. Always used shooting practice ammo since I bought it and there was no single problem to use those ammo. But last week I bought couple box of winchester 12 gauge heavy load #7 ammo to try out, it jams a lot. There is a jam almost every two shot.

why is that, because of the heavy load or something else? Did it happen to you guys?

Add: shot shell can't be ejected

I had an issue with jamming when I tried to eject the first round fired and run the next one in on a particular brand of shells. Apparently the chamber was slightly out of round and I sent it to the warranty gun smith and it was fixed.

jamming with only one brand and not the rest? sounds like a chamber problem with that one brand.someone asked what the brass looked like. is there a slight split or crack in the brass? the chamber could be slightly larger(we talk in 1/1000 of an inch) and that particular brand of ammo is over expanding and it just isn't happening with the rest. it's very rare but it has happened. maybe have a gunsmith check it out

Is it possible these are 3in. shells being fired in a 2 3/4 in. gun with a 3 in. barrel installed. That is how my 870 is , it will shoot the 3 in. shells but they are too long to eject. 2 3/4 in. shells work great. You did mention these were heavier loads, maybe 3 inchers.

In a nutshell NO.

If the frame is a 2 3/4", the the ejector will need to be replaced to fire 3".

My 870 with 3 inch chambered barrel will load and fire 3 in. rounds, it will just not eject them because of the 2 3/4 in. ejector in the receiver , originally chambered in 2 3/4 in. .

The rim of the chamber on your gun was not cut properly, remington is getting sloppy. it needs to be reem correctly, its cut unevenly

the problem is from factory rem 870s arnt properly polished in the chamber the worset is the 3.5" Shells lately about 50% of new rem 870s are going back on warenty. and it is such an easy fix all there doing is properly fineshing the chamber. you can say it is de glazed in other words not smooth. To the naked eye it seemes ok but it is like a 1200 grit sand paper. No mater how many rounds you put through it wont smooth it out beacuse of the plastec shell.
PS take it to a good gun smith one that builds guns if you can. You dont want to take meat out of the chamber eather you will split your brass.

KEEP ON SHOOTING BOOOYY

thin/cheap brass shells "Federal and Winchester 100rnd packs from CT or Walmart" will do this as well. As they expand more then the better brass and will cause hard ejection.
