870 mag spring retainer

Hello, I've got a 1950's wingmaster that I'm trying to get the mag spring retainer out of. I want to take the the block out of the mag. I can't seem to figure out how to do this. Does the retainer at the end of the mag unscrew or do I have to drift it out? It looks like a split insert that should compress. I don't want to bugger it up so any info would be appreciated. If it's the old style, it's simply a compression fit and the retainer can be removed with a screwdriver.

Be careful though... that retainer is under spring pressure and will take out an eye (or get lost in ceiling, like happened to me!).

Thanks for the reply canucklehead. I guess it would be the old style retainer so how do you get it out with a screw driver, ie pry it out or unscrew it?

Pry one side, then the other. Do that back and forth until you are a cyclops.
