My new 870 express has two indents in the mag tube to keep the mag spring bushing from popping out or rotating (not that that should be too much of a problem if it did rotate.)

If I put a long mag extension on these will cause an issue as the rim of a 12 Gauge round will not slide past it. I know there is a tool to remove the indentations but here is the question:

If I put a 14" barrel on it with a + 1 extension, I think the spring itself will fill the short extension, not the first round in the tube. If this is true, the indents can stay there and I can still slide 4+1 into the mag tube.

Anyone else trip over this?

Any extention you use will need those indents swaged or drilled out. If you don't want to mess with it, give Casey a scream.

You might consider doing it yourself if you are handy:

I just use a cheap Canadian Tire Workmate dremel and stone and grind em out just be careful when you get close to finishing. Then give the tube a good clean and your off to the races

The 870.com link is helpful.

Really though, once the metal is formed and the dimples are added, you have a discontinuity in the metal and swaging the metal back out isn't going to add any strength. A perfectly round hole is probably the least of the evils as far as a weak point for crack propagation.

...and yes, the mag tube is not under any real tension or compression.

BUT; thanks for the replies. Much appreciated.

Be advised that the detents are part of the retention system for the magazine cap. If you have a barrel band, that will suffice.
