870 Magazine Spring Question

The other day my dog decided it was a good idea to chew up the OEM plug, follower and magazine spring for my 12 gauge 870 express. I have a new plug and follower but the spring is the part that's got me a little confused. Brownells has what looks like Remington factory springs for sale on their site but after conversion, taxes and shipping I'd be out about 70$ just for a spring. So ideally I'd like to find one in Canada. S&J have 1 meter springs listed on their site but I'm not so sure about them. I know they make quality products. I just don't know what length i would have to cut it at for a standard 4 shot tube? Or if there's other places I should look into for OEM stuff? If anyone with any insight on this matter would care to chime in it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
 
Cut it 2 inches longer than the mag tube and good to go
It’s not very critical. If it feels like to much tension when loading take off another inch
 
The s&j springs are good quality, iirc they are double the length of a factory length spring. I’d have to check though, I probably have an old factory spring in my parts bin I could measure up for you. They come long in case you’re dealing with a mag tube extension and are meant to be cut down to fit.

Two measured in at 16.5” and the one in an 870 was 15.5”, it’s a new factory spring out of a gun that got a +2 extension and a longer spring. The factory +2 spring is 28” in length.

The 15.5” length spring hangs out 3.5” past the mag tube with the spring retainer and barrel nut removed.
 
+4" for pump mag tube springs
+6" for semi auto mag tube springs

After snipping wire to length,bend the wire ends towards the center of spring so it does not to rub inside the mag tube
 
Ordered the 1m long spring from S&J tonight and i'll trim it to the proper length when it arrives.Thanks again guys.

Just one thing to add.
Donr use the factory spring length as a guide.as oit aping is a different compression rate and different coils per foot then Remington. It's also wider.
As posted above go 2 to 3 inch longer then your maytube and adjust as needed.
The reason we Mke just one length is so evey one can use it.
We sell them in bulk to dealers all over the world
Just under 800k sold in thr last 10yrs.
