870- old vs. new

Those complaining the new 870s are rough need to shoot more. Couple thousand shots will smooth it out.

Still surprise how many folks spend their time looking at the finish instead of down the sight to hit their intended target.

It costs more to smooth out a rough pump action by shooting it than it would have to buy one of higher quality that's reasonably smooth in the first place, and some pumps with really rough actions never really smooth out on their own at all.

Unless you're already set up for refinishing, its also fairly expensive to apply a decent finish (not Krylon) to your typical cold blued Express.

The express is the biggest pile of garbage ive ever owned how ####ing hard would it be to smooth out the choppy ass machining marks all over the reciever and the plastic trigger group is a joke overall not worth the 400$ id go norinco i instead

That "plastic" trigger group is stronger and more durable than the powdered metal counterpart ignorant individuals try to pass as superior, actually.

The MIM extractors are perfectly fine, too.

I have a spare forged extractor sitting in my display case, due to Internet paranoia. I don't expect the MIM part will ever break!

Perfectly happy with the plastic trigger group... doesn't rust and very durable.

MIM parts, if made right will last a long time. If they are performing fine in your anti lock brakes, they will do just fine in your shotgun too. Plastic trigger group is actually far more robust than the aluminum one, yet people keep repeating the same BS that they were reading just a moment ago on the Internet without making effort to understand the issue. That's precisely where the "internet expert" term kicks in.

Between me and you...the MIM parts thing does not appeal to me.

Sure, they're lovely in ever so many ways....but that doesn't mean I want to own one.

I will gladly spend $20 or whatever to BadBoyBeeson to obtain a machined extractor and will gladly mail the MIM part off to parts unknown, just to get it out of my sight. It's just the way I'm wired I guess.

That's perfectly fine. It's your shotgun, your money, your choice. However, every time somebody implies that a boomstick will fall apart, just because there are MIM parts inside...has no clue what's he talking about. Usually the same kind of people will tell you that 870P is better than Express, because it's made in the separated area of the factory using better parts and getting more attention on assembly line Laugh2

LOL, if you've ever been in there it doesn't take long to find out the truth about that "special, separate factory area" bull#### story.

An 870 Express and Police are the exact same weapon. The only differences are the parkerized finish on the receiver/barrel (the bolts are the same), one stiffer latch spring, and one machined extractor that doesn't add functionality, but makes stressed-out people sleep better... somewhat.

That's it. Every single 870 Remington makes is the same damn thing. Only differences are in finish. ALL but two (one of them being unnecessary) parts are the exact same, only thing that may change is the finish and stock setup (wingmaster stocks cost wayy more).

Of course. You see, everyone is trying hard to justify money that they spent thus we have all these unsupported claims flying all over this forum. Nothing wrong with buying 870P. Quite opposite in fact. These are my favorite shotguns actually. They are good piece of equipment, but so are all the other 870s. Not many dealers will be honest with the buyers and Remington has no business in explaining their pricing policy either. One needs to spend some time on-line doing research and compare these shotguns physically side by side to learn the truth.

I've owned them all. I had an Express right when they first started selling them, and at the time they still used the ball detent for the mag cap. It was a perfectly fine shotgun.

I've had several Expresses, several Wingmasters, several Police models. 4-5 of each over the years. (now mainly gone)

For my $, I do prefer the Police guns. That does not mean the rest are junk.

The junk IMHO are the Chinese guns. I won't have one in the house. Yes, I know they work great for many people.

Yeah I still love my Wingmasters I just added a 20g standard frame to this bunch. Even the 8.5 is a wingmaster I had built, although I have since swapped the barrel for a Dlask

You have great taste in handguns, I also own those 2.
Are some Wingmasters blued and others Parkerized?

What's the capacity for the 14" models (assuming 2 are 14") with the flush tube? 4+1 or 5+1?
