Any recommendations for a good pistol grip stock that I can put on my 870 for hunting? One qualification: Must not break my cheek bone when shooting!!

why go for a pistol grip..... for the most part the standard stock is perfect for hunting.

just curious on why you choose to go that way....
I find a pistol grip more comfortable when stalking and when sitting in a tree stand (I use my 870 for deer with slugs). I've hunted with this gun for 15 yrs as is.

Speedfeed IV, I have one on my 870, much better than the Choate IMO. I use mine for deer and turkey and it is beautiful especially when sitting for turkey. I have a red dot on the 870, so I put a small foam pad on the stock to align my eyes better and covered it with an Eagle stock pack. It gives a great cheek weld and is comfortabe against your face, plus you can put 5 extra rounds on the other side.

You could get an AR butt adaptor and spin on an AR15 grip and butt. This would give you adjustable length of pull and also flexibility in choosing a grip.

Just a suggestion...

IMHO unless you have been practicing lots you wont hit squat with it unless you have a Laser sight putting a Bright red dot on your target...hence not be able to make a clean quick kill.

I used my pistol grip once, and then put the original stock back on after almost busting my wrist. :(

At the very least I'd recommend a folding stock, so you can flip it out and get some shoulder support.

I just received my speedfeed IV tac stock for my rem 870 and it's awesome, great feel to it.I like it a lot better than choate or the other ones i've tried, speedfeed is more money but well worth it.I don't know how it would be for hunting but that's half the fun trying new things out.

Ever thought that you weren't holding the gun right.

I've been using a Choate PG stock for almost 25 years now, and it was comfort and better hitability from day one.

I'm not a lover of the Speedfeed, but it does suit some better than the Choate.

RobP:

I say find the stock that's comfortable for you and run with it.

If you're in this neck of the twigs, you're welcome to try mine.

I have used the Choate Mk5 and a top folding style on the 870. My preference was the Mk5. I employ a cradle carry a lot and found that the Mk5 came to the shoulder in a way that was smoother than the top folding stock. The top folder had a butt plate the pivoted and seemed exposed to hang up on a loose jacket or kit. The extra stock length compared to a folder was more than made up for in the heft and solid way it pointed and anchored.
