I find a pistol grip more comfortable when stalking and when sitting in a tree stand (I use my 870 for deer with slugs). I've hunted with this gun for 15 yrs as is.Westicle said:why go for a pistol grip..... for the most part the standard stock is perfect for hunting.

I used my pistol grip once, and then put the original stock back on after almost busting my wrist.
At the very least I'd recommend a folding stock, so you can flip it out and get some shoulder support.
