870 Police Bear Gun and Range Report

Hogue needs to update their short stock with a basic spacer system. Just a hair longer would be nice for most people.
As far as the thumb in the nose thing goes it would help but what helps even more is to train yourself to shoot with the thumb in line with the stock instead of draped over the top.

A small sized Limbsaver slip-on pad fits the short Hogue fairly tightly and adds an inch while being softer than the stock pad.

I don't use it much these days however as I now shoot tactical style shotguns from a squared up stance.

I usually like a bit of pattern spread with buckshot myself, but OTOH open chokes are only marginally useful for practicing with bulk birdshot.

That's especially if you're shooting steel, since by the time you're at a safe distance away, an open choke is only going to give you some lame scattered pitter-patter across your plates.

If you want something that will simulate the spread of buckshot at those distances, you're going to need at least a Mod choke, and a Full or even an Xtra Full is probably more like it.
