if you could get one of the above mentioned shotguns, which would it be and WHY? it must be black, ext. mag, 18" barrel etc...
i know that the two major differences are the MM has the electrolysis nickel coating, and the Police is quite a bit beefed up compared to all the other 870's. am i missing something on how they look (they look the same to me)??
how about the price difference?

thanks

I have the old marine magnum
i love it and would do it again, but if it has to be black, i would get the police, just caus its parkerized and i dont like the changing the marine magnum.

I'd go with the 870P as well. The MM is nothing more than an Express with a better, corrosion resistant finish. The 870P (although) a little bit more spendy, comes with all of the internals upgrades and a nice parked finish... If you haven't already, I'd suggest checking out both models for yourself. You'll see the difference when you handle them in person. For me the 870P just feels more solidly put together. In addition, all of the (numerous) ones I've handled/used in the past have had better finishing (both inside and out) than any of the Express models that I've used...

i dont see how you can be right about that, ive built up over 100 870,s into combat shotguns, my go to gun is the marine mag and its nothing like a express.
bbb

thanks for the replies everybody. it seems to come down to personal taste, like always...
so i've decided to go w/ the Police. i just think the nickel coating is overkill for anything but the harshest environments (ie the ocean's corrosive salt). and what i love most about the Police, is the beefed up internals/ quality of the gun...
thx

I'm with the experienced guy.... mm is nothing like the express and while I may not have owned the XCS for long... I've cycled plenty of shells through it with out seeing a single scratch inside the breach from the bolt.

Pretty sure the only thing "beefed up" on the police is the trigger pull which is a little heavier then the other 870's.

And a metal trigger guard if you compare to a newer express....

I handled a XCS MM, I was unimpressed. The action was stiff, and the bolt was rubbing the receiver. This was leaving marks in the finish.

I believe he was referring to the new model, not the nickel plated version...........

yea, that what i heard from the boys down at reliable today. but when i search for it here, i get this...
:(

• 870 Police shotguns go thru a special 23 station check list – ranging from visual inspection, functional testing, test firing, and final inspection.

• All Police shotguns are assembled in a "special build area" at the plant in Ilion, NY. This section is secured and serves only to build LE and Military shotguns, with the same factory personnel working at that assignment each shift.

• All parts that enter the "special build area" are visually inspected by hand to ensure top quality and functionality.

• Due to heavy recoil in buck and slug loads, all 870 Police guns have a longer magazine spring which ensures positive feed and function.

• A heavier sear spring is used to generate a reliable, positive trigger pull between 5 and 8 lbs.

• A heavier carrier dog spring is used to ensure when the carrier elevates the shell, it will be held there until the bolt can push it into the chamber. This ensures positive feeding when using heavier payload rounds.

• Police shotguns do not have an ISS (Integrated Safety System) which is a locking mechanism on the safety of commercial shotguns. This type of locking mechanism can cause delay to an officer who needs the weapon but does not have the appropriate key. LE shotguns have the standard, proven, cross bolt safety.

• The fore-end on the Express model is longer and not compatible with many police shotgun vehicle racks.

• The Police shotguns utilize the heavy duty SPEEDFEED Stocks and Fore-ends.

• The Express model will not allow for the addition of an extension tube without physical modification to the tube and barrel, which can nullify the warranty.

• The Express model has a BEAD BLAST BLUE finish while the Police models utilize either High Luster bluing or Parkerization.

• The Express model utilizes a synthetic trigger housing while the Police models use a compressed metal housing.

• The Police shotgun barrel is locked down with a "ball detent" system in conjunction with the magazine cap vs. a lesser grade "synthetic magazine spring retainer" lock down as used on the Express system.

• The receivers used in Police guns are "vibra honed" to smooth out rough finishes and remove burrs before parkerization or bluing.

• Police shotguns use machined ejectors and extractors, as opposed to powdered metal cast which are utilized on the Express models.

Thats exactly exactly the same but but different :D

I would believe what Remington says about it as the make both..

jeeesh. now i don't know which one i want... and i have till tues to decide!!

Hey Pazzo, dont let the list you posted confuse you... it only compares the police model to the express, not the marine magnum or newer XCS marine magnum.

Do you even know where to find a police model in BC or Alberta? I only ask cause I've never seen one. I would make your decision based on what your needs are. If you just want to have some fun target shooting, go with the police model. If you plan to use this thing in the great outdoors for several days at a time... go with the MM XCS.

I can pretty much assure you that parkerized barrel on the police model will require special care to avoid rust spots from forming if you plan to have it outside for several days at a time.

Too bad reliable doesn't have an XCS to look at, kind of nice to be able to see for yourself before purchasing.

canoer, thanks for replying. both the Police and XCS have to be ordered! i've agreed on getting the Police, but can change to the XCS MM if i decide... i have until tues.
i'm actually slightly changing my mind now? i want to use it on some camping trips, but never in the rain (if i can avoid it)!!
you sparked my interest about the rust w/ your camping comment. do you suspect the gun might rust so quickly? if so, i've changed my mind and will get the XCS. so is the idea of the XCS to NEVER rust (w/in reason)??
thanks

Get the Police
lol. the only issue i'm debating now is that if there's condensation at night (which there always is when camping), will it affect the metal?
