I have been told that 870 police now have a plastic trigger guard, like the Express models.

Is it true, any informations about that?

^^
LOL.
Come to think of it, good point. You always see people bringing it up like it's some kind of defective Toyota, but you can never find a broken one (unlike Toyota).

(Interesting first post, btw)

Artiz speaks the truth. For all the #####ing about Remington's move to polymer trigger guards, I have yet to actually hear of anyone breaking one without deliberately setting out to do so.

Oh, and for what it's worth, the 870P ("Police Magnum" marked on the receiver) still comes with a cast metal trigger guard. The most recent 870P's that i have seen on dealers' shelves (less than a month ago) all had metal guards.

One of the main differences with the 870 Police Magnums is the heavier orange trigger spring. Something to do with an idiot lawyer. The guard is not an issue either way.

Interesting, it's true that I saw a lot of "Plastic trigger group bashing "out there, but no proof of broken one.

So basically, if we take a polymer trigger group and replace sear spring and carrier latch spring by police parts...we almost have a police trigger group!

Guys, a Police trigger group doesn't mean a Better trigger group, Police firearms are different than civilian ones in the way that "accidental/negligent" discharges are less likely to happen under stress, mainly because of a heavier trigger spring and such, they do not make the firearm any more reliable.

BINGO...

The heavier trigger is for more idiot proof...or is that stress proof?

Ref the metal trigger guard vs plastic....I'm quite sure a number of plain folk with 870s in the northern communities have very few issues with the plastic cracking and such.

The topic holds as little ground as people who insist that Glock tupperware is prone to melting disintegration.

I'm with you for the trigger spring, but for the carrier latch spring upgrade, is it really an improvement, or am I just loosing time and money?

A least one tactical custom 870 builder prefers the polymer guard, here's a little snippet;

The Aip Tactical models come with a polymer trigger plate assembly. I prefer these over the cast metal of the Police model. The polymer is stronger, stays cleaner inside and will never show a scratch or need refinishing. If you don't believer they are stronger go to the below link and watch the video on the Ruger Polymer trigger guard. Click on the below link and when it comes up look in the right hand corner of the page and find the video on the trigger guard. I rest my case.

Now me personally I could care less either way about the guard material but I don't like the heavier Police springs, especially the mag tube and trigger spring.

They just make things harder for no real reason beyond maybe allowing for more wear in a neglectful law enforcement setting.

Let me guess, you drive a POS Ford, right? :D

night and day difference from a 870P and 870 express, not just trigger set up.

My first 870 was a police, then express tactical..sold the tactical two days later because its like having two identical Mercedes models but one is AMG, which one would you rather drive?
