I just bought a brand new Remington 870 tactical shotgun and put maybe ten 2 3/4" field loads through it today and now it looks like the barrel either twisted or the bead sight is bent. I don't know why this would happen as I wasn't abusing the gun in anyway. Has anyone else experienced this or is it normal for the bead sight to look slightly off center? Or could it be a case of me being paranoid and picky?

Does it have the extension on it? If so remove the locking nut from the extension tighten that on and then put the extension into that.

Is it an actual REM 870 barrel on there, or a Chinese knock-off barrel?

Some of the Chinese made ones are skewed. There's a thread around here somewhere showing photos of this exact problem.

Tightening the barrel nut won't make that much of a difference. The barrel is indexed to the ejector. Barrel shouldn't twist but a couple of thou of an inch. Hardly noticeable.

Tighten your mag cap with a small pipe wrench......tight is good

But ruining things is not. Please don't use metal on metal. Unless you want to put an old rag in between them. There's nothing wrong with using your fingers. My 870 Super Mag was shooting 5 rounds in rapid fire for about 100 rounds without coming loose.

And easy is right about it not twisting. It shouldn't be able to twist without the barrel basically falling off.

Check to make sure the tip of the ejector is not broken off. This tip extends forward into a notch in the barrel hood and controls the rotation of the barrel. The barrel nut is only supposed to hold the barrel on in a fore and aft manner. It should be hand tight without any tools.

I use a strap wrench to tighten mine.

The only thing I do is push down on the muzzle with my left hand and the butt resting on the ground while I hand torque it with my right hand....I find pushing the barrel in helps with tightening and loosening of the cap.

It does have the extension on it, I tried tightening the the mag cap behind the extension but it was really tight already. I also tried tightening the clamp that attaches the mag extension tube to the barrel. To me it looks like the bead sight is bent, ita remington and not a chinese knock off so I can't see it twisting from a few rounds of 2 3/4" target loads. Any suggestions on how I should proceed to fix this or should i not even worry about it? I'm just pissed cause I spent close to $800 and I don't think even the bead sight should be twisted.

So you took the mag cap off the extension tube, put the mag cap on and tightened it until you hear the ball do a couple clicks, then you screw the extension in then put the little bracket thing.

I would just screw the whole mag cap and extension on before, noticed my barrel would wobble it was cause I couldn't tighten it enough with the extension on.
