hello I need a little help
I was going to get a rifled slug barrel for my 870 and plan on using sabod slugs but also rifled slugs in it aswell (as per the remington web page).
I had a talk with a guy at a gun store and he advised me to only use remington rifled slugs in this barrel because he thought that other brands of rifled slugs have the rifling in the opposite direction. Has anyone else ever herd of this or have had personal experience with this?

Thanks

Do not use rifled slugs in a rifled barrel, as you will get leading. They are for smooth bores.

Sabot slugs are designed for rifled barrels.

Confusing? Yes?

You can use some rifled slugs. Brenneke makes a few for rifled barrels with a special coating to limit fouling. Even if you use Sabots your still going to have fouling just it will be melted plastic.

Hello, I have an 870 that I need to get a barrel for. I'm thinking on getting either a 20" with rifled sights, cylinder bore, or 20" remchoke with rifled sights. Is there generally any advantage to using the rifled choke tubes with lubricated slugs? Otherwise, I'll just be getting the cylinder choked one. I wouldn't want to waste my $ unnecessarily.

What do you plan on using it for? The rifled choke tube and the cylinder bore barrels shoot the same slugs so ammo price isn't going to change, just the purchase price of the barrel. Usually there is at least one choke included with the barrel which has value as well.

I find my 20" remchoke barrel shoots rifled slugs better than my cylinder bore barrel even if I'm using a modified choke rather than the rifled choke. Each barrel will have a different preferrence for a choke/ammo combination, sometimes chokes intended for shot can be very accurate with slugs.

The remchoke barrel gives you lots more options for use of the shotgun, and I feel it gives you a better chance at getting slug accuracy due to the variety of chokes you could try - but if all you want is a 25 yard bear gun then it won't make much difference in accuracy compared to the cylinder bore.
