870 saddlemount with side saddle?

i have a side saddle.. just a tacstar one, but i'd like a mount for a red dot sight now.. can i still have a side saddle? whats available these days, thanks

You can have both of those on your 870. First the rail mount and then the side saddle over that.

You will however need longer screws than the ones provided with the TacStar Side Saddle.

PM me if you'd like to buy a longer a set of screws. I have some with allen heads.

which type of rail mount would you suggest? i seen the mesa tac. one.. but a lil pricey for the combo there

Why not a drilled top rail? Better than the mounts that fit to the side of the receiver anyway because it is more solid. Check with BadBoyBeeson about what works best -- Simon will probably be advising in this thread shortly anyway.

is that something a mildly competent guy can accomplish? how would i make sure its straight before i'd drill? i have a tap and die set.

Depends on your definition of "mildly competent."

Personally I'd take it to a gunsmith, but if you have the tools and feel confident in your competence, it is after all your gun. I am sure there is something on-line somewhere to walk you through.

Mesa Tactical, as sold by several site sponsors has a combo sidesaddle/rail.
