I bought 870 express super magnum combos 2 weeks ago...and I encountered two problem:
1.there is a magazine retainer for limiting the mag capacity,I am not sure if I have to put this thing inside my shotgun mag spring....
2.When I use winchester super speed xtra,2-3/4",7-1/2 size shot,1 oz,1350 FPS,my shotgun can not reject the empty shell, just stuck in the chamber(a part of my barrel).

please help.

The magazine plug is only necessary if required by law. In Canada all Migratory bird hunters are limited to 3 shells max, in many provinces this also applies to all games species. Check with your province if you plan to hunt.

As far as ejecting the empties, if it is only the one type of ammo, do not worry about it and change brands. If it is more than that, then you probably have the smae issue i had with my 870, send it to an Authorized remington Gunsmith and you will have no problems.

sorry, I just cann't find where the regulation about max ammo is.
without mag plug,I can load four rounds of 2-3/4" in mag plus one in chamber,so adds up to 5 rounds:D

I just have no idea which kinda ammo could cause stuck in my shotgun, now,at lease winchester super-speed. I bought another winchester AA and that works fine. but how do I know my shotgun wound't pick another ammo? BTW,my friend's shotgun(870 express supermag synthetic)used super-speed just a little bit stuck(but at least his gun can be ejected).

Well to be safe then, use the plug while hunting and take it out when just shooting at the range.

Max ammo aloud for shotgun hunting in Ontario is 3, 1 in the chamber 2 in the magazine tube so it need the plug in for that.
If your just target shooting, there is no mag limit on manual repeaters like the pump shotgun.

Here's how the plug goes.

I just fired a bunch of various shells through my Police 870 Magnum, they all cycled through like butter. Something is wrong there. Could the chamber need polishing or something? I've had a lot of shotguns and never had shells sticking. I'd send it to the warranty people.

the ammo you mention is notorious for jamming (stiff extraction). i've had jams in 5 different shotguns with the stuff. use it for practice only-

Oh, didn't know that...I just bought a big box of 100 Winchester shells at Canadian Tire, they're just light target loads and they work fine through my Ithaca and my Remington shotguns.

If it's an ammo issue that's good, nothing wrong with the gun then.

I've had extraction problems on my Express and when I took it to a gun smith he told me it was an ammo issue with mine. Certain brands of ammo or lots lack a certain consistency in the way the base of the shell is made. What was happening with mine was the base was expanding and needed a good amount of force to get the spent shell out of the chamber. I was shooting a fair bit of slug and buck shot loads at the time. But I have never had a problem with anything smaller than that.

I had some problems with a new 870 locking up as well. I polished the bolt carrier and bolt ans switched them out to another shotgun and they work fine now. I found the cheap hunting loads cases are too thin and the pellets are distorting the plastic. AA's always worked fine.

Sticking shells in newer 870's is somewhat common. But it is mostly limited to the express models. AA's will always work well as they are compression formed with smooth hulls. A 10 ga brush with some metal polish on a cleaning rod section attached to a hand drill will polish the chamber. The chamber will be slightly rough and the cheap shells will expand into the roughness and stick like you wouldn't believe.

cheers Darryl

jammin'

My 870 supermag is doing the same thing jamming with cheap rounds. But my friends mossbergs and winchesters cycle them no problem. I want this gun to be more universal and shoot ALL shells.

Just stick to the winchester or federal bulk stuff for practice. I have the 870 Super Mag as well and it jams more with the winchester then it does with the federal 100 round packs.

My 870 express super mag combo rusts like hell in the rain, but fires anything of any quality like a dream. I've yet to have a single jam. I don't even clean it like I should. Just a bore snake from time to time. And maybe once a year I'll clean the whole thing out. I would take it to a smithy.
