I've got an 18" wingmaster with a polychoke, and a standard brass bead sight. I want the XS big dot, but they seem to be sold out everywhere.
My goal is to be able to fire slugs up to 50 yards with reasonable accuracy.
What options are there? I also like the standard adjustable rifle sights found on some barrels, and then there's also ghost ring sights.
So my question is, what are the best options for sights? Is a gunsmith required, which does it? What's your experience?

Well, I guess it depends of what kind of accuracy you are looking for.

1.) With my smoothbore barrel with rifle sights I get this sort of accuracy (and with Federal TruBalls):

2.) I also have a smooth bore cantilever barrel with a red dot on it and I get similar accuracy with that setup. But those are very hard to come by ... and expensive.

3.) I can't shoot as accurately with my 870P with ghost ring sights .... but still good enough to hunt deer at that distance. And I am much quicker on target with ghost rings ... :)

4.) Some people use a saddle mount to mount a red dot on the gun .... and it seems they get acceptable accuracy.
I never went that route. All my barrels have a bit of "wiggle" with the receiver ... so once you remove the barrel and reassemble, chances are that your zero is a bit off. Will that make a difference at 50 meters. I don't know ... maybe somebody who has real experience with a saddle mount can chime in of what kind of accuracy they are getting.

5.) You can get the receiver drilled and tapped by a gunsmith and in order to install a picatinny rail and then mount a scope or red dot. But then again you might loose some accuracy with the gun/barrel not holding zero after disassembly/reassembly. And you are raising your line of sight and as a result your cheek weld might not be sufficient any more for "accurate" shooting ... In this case you would also need a new stock with a higher comb ...

6.) Other options?

Now what is the cheapest "accurate" option here? Probably to just buy another barrel with rifle sights ....

Voila, hope this helped ...
