I need some help from 870 shotgun collector's.
I have a 870 shotgun chambered in 12 gauge, I bought new from Lovetts in 1986.
It has manganese phosphate military parkerizing, low luster wood, and has a 20" I/C barrel with rifle sights.
It came with an Uncle Mike's camo sling and sling swievels.
It is stamped 870 Magnum on left side, and SPECIAL PURPOSE DEER on the right side.
I have only seen this exact shotgun pictured and mentioned in the Remington brochure for 1986.
I know that these guns were limited run of 870 Deer Guns, made in military parkerizing and low luster wood, for the year 1986 only.
From my query to Remington, I gleaned only new info that the receiver and gun were made on the same line as the POLICE model for this year. I wanted to be sure they did not have the price point QA controls that the express line got, that followed in latter years.
My questions are:
Does anyone know how many of these were made, compared to total 870 production for 1986, and their value today?
I've had some tell me they are the same as the economy line express guns after 1987. I know this is not correct from correspondance from Remington and my Blue book subscription.
I have read SP shotguns were started in 1983, and the SP DEER was only made 1986.
I have original box, with everyhing that came with it in 1986. Condition I'd say VG-Exc.
Any help would be appreciated so I know the actual trade value against another firearm. I'm a rifle and pistol shooter and never follow the shotgun lines. I have used the search box in this forum but to no avail.
Thank's RTS.
