I have been holding on since '96 to a Remington 870 SPS magnum 12 gauge in Bottomland camo. It is also a DU gun and it is new in the box and unfired. Although I know that the DU engraving on the receiver does not affect the value of this gun I am curious of what others think about just me assembling it and using it. Am I ruining a collectible piece or is it worth just what a new 870 goes for? I am quite content to just go buy another shotgun, but this gun does have some 'too nice to shoot, but too nice not to shoot' quality about it... Anyway, just wrestling with this, any feedback appreciated thanks!

well it is still just a 870 and it may be nice but there were made to shoot ,and life is to short to hunt with ugly guns ,,and you already own it ,so put her together and load her up ...and let her rip ,,enjoy her for what she is a nice shotgun ,,,Dutch

Shoot it. The SPS is a shotgun that fit between the Express and the Wingmaster. It is Wingmaster parts with a different finish and a synthetic stock. I owned one with a Parkerized finished and found it was a nicer, smoother gun than the Remington Express.

There's really nothing collectible about them DU gun or otherwise.
