870 Synthetic Stock Issue

Awhile ago I purchased an older 870 Wingmaster. It came with a current Express set of wood laminate stock & fore-end. Everything fit well, but thought I'd source a synthetic set to see if I'd like to go that route. Swapped out the fore-end and moved on to the butt stock, but found that it didn't line up as nicely as it should, almost like it is/was over-molded. The butt stock lines up and is secure.

So my question is... Is this a common issue with the older Wingmasters?

In gentlemanly terms we would have once said that the wood stands "proud" of the receiver. In your case, its a plastic stock that is molded too big, not a receiver that's too small. Nothing wrong with your older 870.

Is that stock OEM Remington? Some of the Chinese made stocks (Grizzly) for the 870 don't fit well.

No, I don't think it's an OEM Stock.
