OK, here's one for the experts.
I've got a Remington brand name 20" improved cylinder rifle sighted deer bbl (not rifled). Problem is the little ball detent that the cap clicks against at some time got frozen (rusty spring maybe?) and over time the bearing wore down to nothing from removing and installing the bbl nut. (this happened before I got the gun).
So now I can just hand-tighten the bbl nut and there is no click detent to prevent it from loosening.
I haven't shot the gun with this bbl yet, should I be concerned that it will loosten up and the bbl may launch downrange?
Is there any easy fix to secure the bbl nut by some other means?
I'm told I can convert the gun to the newer style bbl nut by punching detents into the mag tube, but that will stop me from being able to install a mag extension in the future.
Anyone got any ideas?
