870 vs Nova

James I have hunted with an 870 for over 40 yrs and never had a problem. Thought I would try a new Super Black Eagle II with 3 1/2 in chamber. Nice gun but I hated the idea of taking it out in dirty weather. SO..........I ended up with a Synthetic stocked Nova since it is very similar to the SBE II. Took it on one hunt and didn't like a single thing about it. A friend liked it so it went home with him. I went and bought a new 3 1/2 in chambered synth stocked 870 for my dirty weather shotgun. Shop around , the new 3 1/2 in 870's can be had for about $ 450 with the synth stocks. That may be the last shotgun you need.

It is a good idea to have two firearms in the same caliber or gauge, since with only one you are SOL, if one becomes non functional, especially if you live in a wilderness area!

After owning an express 20 gauge for around 3 years id def keep the nova, the 870 is quite roughly finished, trigger has about 1/8th of creep and if you breath on the "parkerizing" it rusts.. that being said it was cheap and as my dedicated turkey gun it works just fine.
On the other hand my full time waterfowl buddy has shot a nova for the last 10 years and that thing looks like new still. Hes had zero issues with it,even after falling in minus 20 water! Drained it out loaded her back up and we resumed the hunt!

Its not a matter of what the better gun is, its whats the better gun FOR YOU.

IMHO, 870's always shoulder and point so naturally.

The Nova is a great gun too, but totally different.

All the more reason to keep both...
