Hey all,
My brother picked up a new factory 18" police barrel for his wingmaster. It seems that there is some of lateral play between the barrel and the receiver... This is most noticeable because the 18" barrel has rifle sights. When the magazine cap is tightened it tends to put the sights off to one side and can be a bit shaky if not torqued down tight. Also it has been having some ejection issues as of late. Is this dangerous? short of replacing the receiver what can be done?

check for any chipped off or broken pieces on the ejector assembly. The front most part aligns the barrel. The whole thing is riveted in and can be replaced.

think of this as a good thing, now you have put in a 3 inch ejector spring and have a 3 inch wingmaster, which is the best combo of 870 one can own!!

Keep in mind when you get the new ejector riveted in the new rivets will stand proud on the drivers side of the receiver. They get milled flush and polished when the guns are built so if you want it to look the same refinishing is in order. If you look at the side carefully you can see two dots of slightly different colour metal - those are the rivets.

If you decide to have it done Casey at Tac-Ord is the man for the job.

If you decide you would rather just sell it and find another receiver to avoid the hassles of refinishing and getting the work done.... then please consider sending a PM to someone that has been helpful in diagnosing the problem :) Seriously though, upgrading a wingmaster to 3 inch is the way to go. Best of both worlds. When you send it off, Casey can also cut the bolt and install a new lifter to convert it to flexi-tab if it isn't already.
