My 20 guage wood furniture is in need of replacemnet, and I'm going to a gunshow this weekend...are 20 and 12 guage stocks/grips different sized? Thanks!

12 and 16 ga 870's share the same wood. But never say always. Original 16 bores (not the latest issue) had smaller diameter barrels than 12's and the fore arm will have to be relieved to be fitted on a 12 ga gun. I hope this has confused you not too much. I would take the old wood with me to compare. Some gun show sellers peddle "one size fit's all" parts at shows.

cheers Darryl

I'd have to haul them out of the safe to be certain....but pretty sure my 20 gauge LW has a smaller receiver than my 12g Wingmaster... both from late '70's period. The 20 has a mahogany stock (from the factory) to keep weight down...I think I'd be surprised if they were the same size

Not sure about the date, but it was years ago, the 20 gauge gun was built on the 12 gauge frame. Check out the remington forum at Shotgun World.

The 20 gauge is on a smaller frame then the 12 now.

Perhaps cause your 20 is a LW it is on a smaller frame.

But I will bet my 20 ga Wingmaster Magnum against your 20LW that mine is on a 12 gauge frame.

well I won't take that bet ... but I will definitely measure my 20g LW and compare it to my 12g Wingmaster (3" mag.) receiver .... and report back....once I get into the gun safe.. behind the boxes, under the table, in the back of the....etc etc...assuming I can still find the damn keys....security today sure takes the fun out of gun ownership...oh well ... better safe than sorry I guess...

This seems to explain it (and mine is from the late '70's period)

All Remington ® 870 M-870™ Standard Weight 20 Gauge "Wingmaster" were introduced in 1950 and discontinued in favor of the Light-Weight (LW) model in 1972. The M-870™ Standard Weight receivers are identified as full size frames with 2 3/4" chambered guns having serial numbers ending the suffix "X" (#0000000X) and 3" chambered guns having serial numbers ending in the suffix "N" (#0000000N

glad I didn't take Waterfowlers bet!!!
