8mm-06 vs 8x60,8x63, 325wsm,???

Whatever happened to the 8mm 06? This is a simply great cartridge and compares to the ones stated above. Is it just because it has to be reloaded? I don't know why the MFRS never went to this cartridge. There is a 338-06,25-06,and a whole bunch of 06,s out there including the 35 Whelan.

It seems to me that converting a 98 in 8x57 to 8mm-06 is just so easy that its not attractive enough. Any comments JITC:confused:
 
i think the 8mm '06 went out of fashion when 8mm the supply of 8x57 ammo caught up to the supply of rifles chambered in 8x57. also, it the "sporterization" of milsurp rifles is not as popular as it once was. and with 8x57 components easy to get, what is the gain? 100fps?
 
By that logic, what's the use of a 30-06 over a 308? A magnum over a non-magnum? Really, it was all over after the 30-30, wasn't it? The 8mm-06 has had a tough row to hoe on this side of the pond for the same reason that every other 8mm has. For Americans, it's a odd caliber. It did do better when it was a easy alternative for war trophies. Having said that, it really is a better hunting round then the 8x57, just not by a lot. - dan
 
It's more than the prejudice we seem to have against things that are called a Xmm X Xmm, it's also bullet selection. The .338-06 can do anything an 8mm-06 can because of the huge selection of components, plus the bit of extra frontal area doesn't hurt. Both are great, efficient cartridges and deserve more than they've received. I'm not even sure if the 8mm-06 has ever been accepted by and specs laid out for it by SAAMI. BTW, if the 7mm Rem Mag had been called a 7X68, or whatever the length is, I probably wouldn't own one either - I'd be forced to shoot a Weatherby. It most certainly wouldn't have become the incredibly popular cartridge that it is.
