8mm JS - Safe to shoot in German K98?

I picked up some Sellier & Bellot 8mm JS from a gun shop a while back and the gentlemen at the store said it was ok to shoot with a WWII German K98. I've read some info on the 8mm JS but have only become more confused.

Is this designed for, and safe to shoot with my K98?

It works nicely in mine. I shoot it in my K98 and G43. Accurate. If your guns are in good order to start with, you should have no problem with this ammo.

JS refers to the bullet/bore diameter. .323 became standard long ago but some of the very early 8mm bores were .318, so there became a need to differentiate to prevent the larger ammo being fired in older weaker rifles. The 1888 commission rifles were the main ones in .318 but some sporting rifles were made in .318 long after that. All the more modern 98 military rifles should be OK, but if you are in any doubt, it is a great idea to have the bore (and head space) measured and approved by a gunsmith to be sure.
