While I gather brass for 8mm Mauser before reloading, Any recommendations of what shoots best? Make and weights? Got a Yugo M43BO in transit and going to shoot it early in the new year. What works and what to avoid, from experienced 8mm shooters?

Thanks in advance.

I prefer Winchester brass, so I would look for that first. That said, I found a very limited selection of ammo in 8x57 and ended up with a few boxes of Federal blue box. Now I skip paying commercial ammo prices and just buy brass to reload with from the start.

My M48A liked Igman 180 Gr SP more than any other commercial hunting grade loads.
Try PPU made ammo.It has a good brass and it's made to proper pressures unlike US made
stuff (much higher).

I agree with above suggestion-reload right from the start.Neck sizing die set is available from Lee,brass is sold by number of CGN sponsors, bullets can be found in number of weights.Cast your own if you like.

x2 with what donor says, stick with the heavier bullets and you won't go wrong.

If the rifle is full of cosmolene, clean the bedding areas as well as possible. Be careful not to lose the spacers in the action screw holes. Don't over tighten the screws when you reassemble the rifle.

Yugos are usually very good shooters. I've seen a few with slightly warped stocks but that's easily fixed. they usually have some upward fore end pressure on the barre as well, that's a good thing. It's the side pressure that is the problem.

Yugos also seem to have generous chambers, so as mentioned above, neck sizing only is your friend. Yugo chambers don't seem to be very consistent from one rifle to another and they also have long throats.

Another thing, as far as ammunition goes, the Privi preloaded ammunition is pretty good. It costs about as much as it does to buy new brass and components to reload. IMHO, I would just buy the Privi preloaded cartridges and shoot them to get the once fired brass to match you chamber. You may even be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks guys. Just having a look at the local market, not seeing too much available other than Winchester 180gr, PRVI, and S&B and something in 196gr. I'm all for the loading, but for now need to collect brass and do some shooting.

Who has bullets in .323?

when i had one, i shot 196 grain NORMA-just ahead of a good load of 748- the 06 EQUIVILENT LOAD- not the pussy factory load- that stuff would do moa all day long

be carefull of igman brass if you are going to reload, it has a real tiny flashhole and will eat your primer punch on the first try. Ask me how I know. brand new lee die set, first try "click" crap!

might it have been BERDAN and you just punched out the ANVIL?- look at the primer pocket for TWO holes- that'll break even good rcbs pins
