What's the skinny on 8mm Mauser Milsurp ammo availability these days? I've heard of Romanian and Yugo ammo "out there" but does anybody know who's selling it and where these days?

Hand loading is the way to go for serious shooting but for plinking away, the milsurp stuff is a whole lot less effort!

Hey MauserMike, well apparently according to my friends at Milarm and Things Military the availability of mil surp 8mm ammo is grim!:( There seems to be some new level of Federal import laws that I was not aware of regarding importing of surplus ammo to hot for the specs... I am being told 8mm falls into this catagory:confused: What ever this is all spec until I get the goods on it. But I just bought 580 rds from Thinks mil in Calgary, it's Bosian Igman softpoint. But it will be going down range in short order. Hurry he may still have some left. I almost bought it all. I left him with 500 rounds to share. Bill at TM, told me it took him a year to get that allotment into the Country:eek:

Go get some

Too hot for which spec? (SAAMI?)

Surely this has to do with the whole Spitzer bullet .323 diameter problem for ancient 8x57 actions. The post-WWI era 98 actions can take a lot more pressure than even the mil spec ammo can generate. I believe the German specification was something like 2900fps at the muzzle for a 195 grain bullet. That's some serious power.

there is no surplus 8mm in canada

major problem is the gov wont test mecuric primed ammo and guess what its all primed that way

so none will ever come into canada and at the rate the americans are shooting it there wont be any around in a year or so

I watched a guy run 10,000 rnds thru a FA 1919 in the summer over a weekend he said he did this a few times a month year round

Great... Good to know the Americans get all the fun while we are out in the cold, as usual!

I'm just glad in this case that I'm not an MG-42 owner :D

I bought some new manufacutre Igman 8mm Mauser (I gave up on trying to find surplus stuff a while ago)...

I got it from Districorp in Quebec (http://www.districorp.ca/English/ammunition.htm)...

The price was right, but it is DIRTY ammunition... the cleaning I have to do after I shoot it is incredible... and not the most accurate (about a 4" group at 100m using origional sights)... and shoots about 12" high at 100m (using the origional k98 sights)... I think this high point of impact would be lower using the 198gr rounds available...

But the price is right... and if you're just going out to have some fun with your old k98... it's the way to go...
