It is a very simple thing to do? Run a 30-06 case through your 8mm die and then trim to proper length, done. you now have 8mmx57 brass.

8x57 is the parent case of .30-06, so cases are plentiful and will be always available. I must have several hundred at home from range pick up.

Yes, it is that easy. I've used .270 as well.

And beside 8mm Mauser this works great for 7.65 Argentine too.

I scavenge reloading components at gun shows mostly, like primers and bullets, powder I buy in 8lbs kegs.
My 8mm Mauser reloads cost around/less than $0.60 per pop, and they are better than anything on the market.

Just bought a Kar98k and I'm looking for opinions on ammo.. from what I've gathered in this thread and elsewhere is that the Sellier & Bellot is well-liked, and the Federal is not liked at all (as well as being expensive af). I bought a few boxes of S&B SP to start me out. What do people think about the Prvi Partizan and Hornady offerings?

I used some of Canada Ammo's new surplus 8mm. I thought it was decent.

Do not know about Hornady but the PPU groups well out of my M48a Yugo. The PPU shoots low though, at 100 m I have to set the rear sight at 300 to be spot on target using a 6 o'clock hold. On the other hand, the surplus Yugo shoots high at the same distance but with the 200 m setting. I guess that PPU is underpowered relative to the surplus ammunition.

ah I missed that surplus stuff on canada ammo when I was shopping around.. maybe i'll have to get into that as well. Am I right in assuming it doesn't come up often? Looking at old threads I seem to get that impression
