8mm Mauser

I was given a Mauser missing the bolt, how and where would I acquire a bolt and how would I check the head spacing?

To this audience, you've said the equivalent of being given a car but not the keys. What model, markings, cartridge, condition, photos ...?

But, why is there no bolt? Is it registered?

Any gunsmithing shops would have spare bolt bodies lying around from long-since scrapped guns. Are you trying to restore a collectible or put a deer rifle back into working order? What you are trying to do will influence what you are looking for.

I had a run in with them last fall, when looking for a bolt for a BSA. They would only send it to a local gunsmith in business. It was a first and last for me as well. Gunner if you want to give it a go, Western Gunparts.com bearhunter

Sorry don't want to hijack but I had problems with Western Gun Parts as well. Wouldn't sell me a bolt stop for my 788 said I had to go thrue a gunsmith.Liability was the big word the lady on the phone used.

Do any of you guy's have a bolt that I can buy, I just want to shoot the rifle it's a real fine looking cannon. And it needs the dust cleaned out of the barrel.

Send them an email with what you're looking for; they do sell parts to non-gun smiths I just ordered from them this week.

If you look into WGP you will find that they will sell you some parts but not others. I had the same experience as others. Certain parts I could order and others had to be ordered by my gunsmith. I had an owners manual to work with and these parts where listed in the manual as only being availible to a qualified gunsmith. I imagine they use the same references. I was fixing an old beat up Marlin for what its worth.

That's what I did. Bring your gun into a gunsmith, the bolt has to be fitted anyway.

WGP gave me the same run around. The kicker was it was a P-17,a totally parts interchangeable rifle. The US army required it.Mausers bolts aren't interchangeable, they were headspaced to that barrel,so it is good advice getting a gunsmith to fit one.

Ive got one off a 98 spanish la coruna in 8x57 that I cut the handle and tig welded it back on an angle . If youre interested pm me
