Hello. The heading says post ww2 rifles but this looks like the best area to place this question. I have recently come into posession of a ww1 german mauser marked amberg 1910 and what looks like kax 98 on the side but can only find info on rifles marked as kar98a. Over the years the full length stock has been cut down to look like a sporting rifle (kind words please it was my wifes grandfather that did it) and now I am looking to try and restore it. Can anyone tell me where I can look to find such items and is it worth it or should I just leave it as is. When I figure it out I will try and post some pictures, but until then I find myself searching the web for info with limited success. so any other info would be appreciated. Thanks
 
Some of GEW 98's were converted to K98K specs for service in WW2. I think a guy on this site has one for sale that is pretty sharp looking. The kax 98 you are seeing is maybe kar 98.
