Just picked up a sporterized Turk. mauser.
What would be an ideal choice for ammo be?\

I noticed lebaron has 8mm Mauser (8x57) - Box of 20
X8MM....................170 gr. Power Point on sale for $31.36
do you think this is a good deal?

That stuff will work just fine but the price, ouch! If you can get your hands on Igman ammunition, it's perfect for everyday shooting. The Winchester ammo is pretty good for hunting.
 
As with any rifle cartridge you're not reloading, you'll have to try a box of as many brands as you can to find the ammo your rifle shoots best. Gets expensive. All the major ammo makers load 8mm Mauser.
$31.36 is a bit cheaper than some places. Shooter's Choice, in Waterloo, for example, wants $37.95 per 20 for Remington 170 grain SP ammo.
Epp's is an Igman dealer. No prices listed on their site though.
 
Marstar sells for 25.50$ for a Winchester box of 20, Shippind and handling makes buying single boxes too expensive but spreading it out on a bulk shipment will pay off over LeBaron prices. Milsup rounds can be found now and then but are corrosive.
