A few questions here. I have a freind that owns one and we have found a bit of factory Hornady ammo to use for now. He wants to reload when the Hornady's are gone. We have lots of brass but everything else is a mystery.

The brass we have is the Graf stuff, it supposedly will accept boxer primers so we have that cased too.

The questions are:

1) What type of powder?

2) Sources for bullets? Looking for the 205 grain Hornadys that the factory loads have.

3) I understand that 8mm Mauser bullets are too small. Is the correct size for the Hunn .329?

4) Will a Westley Richards 318 bullet work or is it too big? They measure .330 and are often 250 grain. We are hoping to find a moose load.

5) Loads any of you have tried would be great.

Thanks.

Hi Jasonsmack,

I've just begun reloading a few months ago and have 60 rounds made up for my M95 rifle and carbine. While I cannot yet comment upon the accuracy of my loads I can answer at least a few of your questions.

Looking at the loads that came with my Lee die set, they list loads for bullets from 125 to 225 grains. For the heavier bullet weights they list the following:

200gr Jacketed Bullet
ACCUR 4350, 40.7gr starting to 44.0gr, 2039fps
ACCUR 3100, 49.0gr starting to 49.0gr, 1980fps
ACCUR 8700, 54.5gr starting to 54.5gr, 1692fps

220gr Jacketed Bullet
ACCUR 3100, 46.0gr starting to 49.2gr, 1946fps
ACCUR 4350, 39.4gr starting to 41.0gr, 1906fps
ACCUR 8700, 54.5gr starting to 54.5gr, 1512fps

225gr Jacketed Bullet
H4831, 51.2gr starting to 57.0gr, 2346fps
H414, 44.9gr starting to 50.0gr, 2342fps
H380, 41.3gr starting to 46.0gr, 2285fps
H4350, 41.3gr starting to 46.0gr, 2221fps
H450, 44.0gr starting to 49.0gr, 2145fps

I loaded up my 205gr Hornady's to the starting load for 225gr bullets with
H414. Once again I have yet to shoot them.

You can get the 205gr Hornady's and the PrviPartizan brass carried by Graf's from www.bcredneck.com. I believe that the bullets were about $30.00/100 when I bought them or just a bit more.

The correct size for the 8x56R Hungarian is .329 cal. While I cannot say whether the bullet you list would be alright to shoot in this calibre, the Lee die mentions that .338 bullets can be sized down to .329 with the appropriate Lee Lube and Sizing Kit. On the other forums where I've read about it, accuracy results with sized .338 bullets tended to be somewhat mediocre.

I'll be looking forward to posting the results of my own loading when available.

Good Luck!

Frank

i think the data that comes with the lee 8x56 dies is actually their 8mm mauser data in disguise.

i am using IMR4064 with the hornady 205 grain bullet. i kept adding powder til it shot to the desired point of impact (and isn't even breaking 2000fps).

The factory loads that we have for the gun claim 2410 fps. That is the Hornady 205 grain factory loads. I am going to check them with the chrony to make sure.

The Westley Richards are indeed .330. That would be an easy resize to get to the .329. I have no idea whay they call it a Westley Richards 318. The bullets are a round nose 250 grain that Eldon wants to use for Moose next fall. I will update this when we get to that point.

I will forward the bullet salesman info to Eldon. Thanks so far.
