Looking for info, anyone changing berdan, too boxer primed, I have some ",bird" marked ammo, and I don't want to destroy them if it's not doable, don't see why not.!! Anyone with experience along these lines? Thanks for any help or advice.dugin

Cheaper! That's me! But it wouldn't cost much at all if I do it myself, which I could/can do provided there is enough material there, I may section one of them and see what might work, I'm a retired old fa-t, machinist with time on my hands, besides it would be fun to shoot what with the "nasty bird" on them. Feed the old girl what she grew up with. Ha ha. I wonder if sm. rifle primers might work, or large, for that matter , maybe even shotgun primers?? Just thinking off the top of my head here! O.K. Time to go section an empty and see what's what. Wish me luck. Dugin

the berdan primers are avaible you just have to hunt for them they are 5.5mm nr 5620 don't remember were I last got them though. Hydraulic decaping is easy. I do it for both my 8x56 brass and 7.5x55

Primer is .217", a Large Boxer is .210".

Should be able to shrink that pocket with a solid ring crimp, get rid of the anvil, drill a single flash hole and re-use Adolf's brass.

I've converted berdan to boxer successfully before.

I did it by removing the berdan primer, and drilling a new flash hole in the center of the new primer pocket.

I then cut many short pieces of 1/4" copper pipe.

I inserted the copper pipe onto the large rifle primer pocket swaging mandrel from my rcbs swaging tool.

I put a dab of permanent loctite onto the tubing and swaged the tubing into the berdan primer pocket hole thus creating a new pocket perfectly sized to take a large rifle primer.

I did this project just to see if I could. (Bored I guess?)

At the end of it I loaded some cast 160 grain bullets and 18 grains of 2400 powder. They all went bang and none of the the new pocket inserts came out. I noted some gas leakage on many of my new pockets in between the case and the new swaged ring.

I will say that I've never worked up the courage to shoot full power rounds through these cases as I dont think they would hold.

After spotting the slight gas leakage I decided not to shoot these anymore as it's not necessary with most cartridges that I load being available and reasonably cheap.

This was my experience as well. After getting back gas in the face from leaking primers I decided it was fun trying but not worth continuing any more conversions.

Thanks smellie, !!!! That is very encouraging!!! But you got some esplanin, to do Lucy!!! Like how do I accomplish that, no experience, never tried to crimp primers. Is there a tool for that, or do I make one, don't feel comfy messin, around a live primer, help me out here, cause I like your solution !!! Dugin

Mbogo3 is that a question on statement ? If it's a question, yes, Austrian carbine, as for the ammo, the box of 10 rounds, is marked 8mms M30 Schaffer s-patronen, Rottw. And ll. 1939

Austria was annexed to Germany in 1938. Examination of hs of 8x56R will show that Austrian double headed eagle was replaced by eagle with swastika that year.
