8x56r for steyr m95

ammo is catch as you can at gunshows and places like milarm. i've seen it priced anywhere from $3 to $12 for a box of 10. the ammo comes on clips (necessary for the M95), 10 rounds to a box, made in germany in the late 1930's.

the 1938 dated stuff does 2350 fps out of my M95 stutzen (the short rifle with the stacking hook). although it does shoot high. i would like to shoot some out of a long rifle, i am guessing 2600 fps.

i have been loading graf brass with the hornady .330 205 grain bullet. i am using IMR4064. i started low and incremented the charge until it shot to the front sight at 100m. now i just have to run it over the chrony. it is as accurate as i am with the sights.

i have hunted with mine but never got a shot while carrying it.

Actually "GRAF" is makeing it again and Hornady(I believe) is making the bullets. Your local dealer should be able to get brass and bullets for you. If not give Del Selin a call at 250 545 6413 in Vernon BC a call, open tuesday to saturday 9:00 am - 4:30 pm PST. Sorry for posting a business phone number, but they have lots of old hard to get stuff on hand and others may find it interesting to give them a call. :D bearhunter

Hornady is making and selling thier own, it is available, and you should contact m0nkyman and pester him, as he has a line on it. Otherwise find a Hornady dealer and ask (bare in mind many dealers are a little slow to learn these things, so it may be news to them).
That said Hornadys obviously comes without the clips. So, you had best find some.

The milsurp stuff is drying up, and the last I found was 2$s a round, 20$ per box. And that was the $hitty I/1938 not the 8/1938, and it was total crap, and I knew it would be, but bought it anyway....

I have plowed over 1K rounds through mine, the bore is now a certified sewer pipe

 Just remember if you shoot it, particularly with the 70 year old stuff, wear GLASSES, don't forget them :!:

I have some, but no clips. I will not ship it, but a meeting can be arranged at the next Montreal Gunshow.

Thanks guys, I dont reload so thats out of the question...at least for now.

JP, sounds good, if the deal for the rifle goes through I will take you up on that offer :)

I wanted to meet with you at the last gunshow but I only found out you were there on my way out :(

Dosing, shame on you for not cleaning your rifle

Heyyyyyyyyyy, well at least your nicer than Claven... :( . Well the bore was not 'pristine' to begin with, running 1K+ of boattail ball down it didn't help, particularly the Bulgy crap....sheesh that was crap. Avoid the Bulgy if you can (Rampant lion and Zn/Cu jackets), if at all possible try for the 8/38 Wollersdorf made rounds. It is the best of what is 'commonly' available.
The Austrian stuff (except the 1/38 load) is best, then the Hungarian, then the Bulgarian stuff.

Mind you I also used to use my primary M95 as a shotgun, AP test gun (don't ask....I was bored), and over the years crammed a lot of interesting stuff down its throat (steel, Aluminum, brass, copper etc). (it really is close to a cylinder bore now  ).

As I say, don't forget you glasses, M95s have no venting on the bolt, and a punctured primer (all mine were on 1/38 rounds) comes straight back into your shooting eye.

i just got dies and bullet mold for m95-just waiting for brass.reloading rocks

9mm-do you have short or long M95?i haven't seen any long models anywhere-just asking.as for ammo-just ask around maybe someone is reloading it somewhere nearby yer place or can do it for you if provided with components?

Im working on a deal for an m95 carbine...would likely get it anyway but knowing I have something to shoot through it makes it much more appealing :)

The Hornady ammo you speak of is Graf and Sons exclusive. I think there are 3 dealers in Canada, although I only know 2

1. BC Redneck (in BC naturally)

2. Rayne or Shine gunworks (In Saskatchewan)

Sorry, I don't have phone numbers, but I'm sure you can do a search and find them.

Does normal or lapua make ammo? I am sure 9mm would love to shoot 1/2 the value of the gun every time he brings it out!
