Well today I went into a local gun store and happened to come across about 200-250rds of Nazi surplus 8x56r on the Mannlicher clips for fairly cheap as they probably had sat there for a while.
When I got home I looked through the box and found some of them (about 25rds worth) on brass stripper clips (or chargers) not on the standard Mannlicher clips. The casings have only a 55 on the top and a 71 on the bottom for the headstamp (no Nazi marks or anything else for these ones). I was wondering if anyone knows why there on stripper clips as opposed to Mannlicher clips as I was under the impression that all rifles that used this round used the Mannlicher clips system. The brass chargers have no markings on them as well.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Well I took a look again and it turns out that they are 7.62x54r on brass stripper clips. A bit disappointing but still not too bad a deal. 170rds of 8x56r on Mannlicher clips manufactured in 1938, some of the ammo is Austrian, some have the Nazi headstamps and 30rds of 7.62x54r on brass stripper clips for 150$. Would have been better if they were all 8x56r but I still consider this not a bad deal since new manufacture 8x56r is 35$ for 20rds.

"...standard Mannlicher clips..." Mannlicher style rifles were used by a swarm of countries. Means there's no such thing as that. Carcano's are Mannlicher style rifles, as I recall.
"...Nazi surplus..." Not a chance. If it was, it'd be high priced collector grade ammo.

Well obviously you don't know too much about 8x56r. They have the Nazi eagle with the swastika imprinted on the head stamp along with 1938 and the caliber. If you want you can buy some of my "high priced collector ammo" off me for 15$ per round. Yes there were several countries that used Mannlicher style clips, The Dutch, Italians, Bulgarians, French, and a couple others. Obviously I am referring to the standard 8x56r Mannlicher clips as there is only one style for that caliber.

I seriously don't know why sunray even posts in the Milsurp forum....

MANY of his posts have false or incorrect information...

The snide and condescending manner in which he posts doesn't win him any friends either.

:nest:

I once shot a clip of 1938 dated 8x56R in my Budapest stutzen and she kicked pretty good. The rounds went off without any hang fire and the brass was quite clean afterwards.

I am impressed with the quality of the ammo but I have since reverted to collecting it rather than shooting it. I don't have 400 rounds but I do have half a dozen boxes of ammo and clips.

I was going to undercut you and offer some of my several hundred rounds to Sunny for only $10, but then I saw this guy undercut me!

I have around 400 rounds of nazi surplus, I will let it go for 5$/ round if you buy all of it, you can have it for 1600$;)))

Jeez you guys are some harsh competitors, I just can't afford to compete at those prices. Oh well I guess now I have got the ammo, its just a excuse to buy a gun that can shoot it xD
And here I was looking forward to reselling it to Sunray for 15$/rd xD

You can find surplus 8x56R with the Austrian and Nazi eagles. I have both. Different eagle. And of course there was NO Austria in 1938 where most of my stuff was dated. They had tons of this surplus ammo in the early 90s, even Lebarons sold it at the counter.

But, but...wait! I'm positive that it is worth a big price...isn't it? I bought a crate of the stuff years ago. It has a good kick to it. I sent some spent brass to a fellow in England. He reloaded the stuff. He was very appreciative and sent me his deceased sister's little stamp album.

I just latched on to some more at the Swift Current gun show a short while ago. It came out of the Swift Current Coastal Defence stores. :p

I picked up six boxes at the Dauphin Gun Show this year. I was told it was surplus stock left over from the Lake Winnipeg Seal Hunt.

GEEEZ Kjohn, are you sure we are not giving SUNRAY a lot more information so that he can enlighten others with it?

Actually Austria was annexed in early 1938, my ammo has the Austrian eagle on the ammo from the first month and the Nazi eagle after that point. Kinda cool as it shows the change in ownership quite clearly.
