Hello everyone, just wondering if anyone knows where to get 8X56R ammo for a Steyr M-95 straight pull or the specs for loading, I cannot find this Caliber in any of my reloading manuals, thanks.

check out Del Selins', a dealer on the EE. He has brass as well as bullets and probably some loads for you.

I assume you are talking about the 8x56R Hungarian straight pull rifle. If it has a large S stamped on the barrel or receiver ring, it is of a later type. You might slug the bore. Regular 8mm bullets are .323 diameter, and this rifle is .329 bore diameter.

I believe LEE makes a .329 bullet mould for this cartridge.

Be careful on any loading data. Mannlicher made an 8x56 RIMLESS cartridge.

The "Handloaders Manual of Cartridge Conversions" says you can make the cases out of 7.62x54 Russian.

There was a lot of ammo imported in the mid 90's, it occasionally shows up at gun shows in small amounts.
Because most of it has the Nazi swastika and eagle on the headstamp, it seems to be bought up for cartridge collectors one box at a time.

Wow guys, thanks, it seems to me that I will never have a question go un answered at this site, I really appreciate all the help, thanks again!!!

I believe that Hornady has made a run of .329 bullets.

.329 205gr, round nose gas check bullets. Lee #90775

I have one of those rifles, but I prefer to buy someone else's product and only cast bullets if I have to. (Snider, Martini, Webley)

Thanks John, I'm a milsurp newbie and just started to collect, You have the snider, martini, webley in brackets, & I have no clue about those names, thanks again

When Austria was annexed by the Nazi's Steyr made military ammo for themselves and their Italian allies[North Africa] eagle and swastika marked. You can also load .330 Westley Richards bullets."S" bore will be marked on the reciever is .323" Most economical will be the Lee mold and casting............You won't run out of bullets till you run out of a source of lead................Harold

I purchased 8x56R brass produced for Graf's by PrviPartizan and 205gr .330 calibre bullets from Jim Friesan (sp) from BCredneck dot com about a year and a half ago. I ordered the Lee dies and 205gr cast bullet mould from Higginsons Powders. THough I haven't yet fired my SP reloads, I've had good success with 24gr of IMR3031 and cast bullets in my M95 Rifle. The carbine has not done as well, but that probably has more to do with bore diameter than anything else. I'm looking forward to shooting more cast in my pair and perhaps trying the jacketed soft points one day on deer sized game.

The Lee dies come with loading data for jacketed bullets, though they list alot of bullet weights that I haven't seen in this calibre. If you take a look at Castboolits.com, you'll find alot more info on cast in 8x56R.

Good luck with your 8x56R!

Frank

You have Got to be having me on!
The .577 Snider was Canada's military rifle for many YEARS
Martini-Henry 577-450 Rifles were also Canadian issue
AND NOT RECOGNIZING THE .455 WEBLEY??????
Were you raised in a monastary on a mountain top? ROTFLMAO!!
(Just having a bit of fun)
It would be like an american not knowing what a M1911 Colt was, or a Springfield rifle or an M1 Garand.:D

Well I guess some of us know more than others John, no shame involved.
(PHRASE) The only stupid question is the one you did'nt ask!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
